The FAA is working with the airlines to cut air traffic by 10% at the 40 busiest markets in the country starting tomorrow. In Philly union workers who maintain air traffic control equipment say since the shutdown started they only got a partial paycheck and are close to losing a second full check.

Crews battled an early morning 2-alarm fire at this vacant church at 56th and Market in West Philly. No one was hurt. Five nearby homes were evacuated and the 56th Street L station was closed for a few hours as a precaution. The cause of the fire is under investigation. @kywnewsradio.bsky.social

Business as usual on the Paoli/Thorndale line as the SEPTA regional rail service cuts are on hold due to last week’s court order that paused the cuts and fare hike. But riders are still waiting on a mass transit funding deal. A “shitty game of chicken” is how one rider described the situation.

Spent the morning in Atlantic City. They’re not allowing people to even dip their toes in the water because of Hurricane Erin. The storm isn’t hitting the Jersey shore directly but it is definitely being felt. @kywnewsradio.bsky.social

If lawmakers in Harrisburg don’t come up with a last minute agreement to fund the transit agency by the end of the day then the deep service cuts will happen starting on August 24th.

SEPTA employees started posting signs along the 32 bus routes that will be eliminated a month from today if the state doesn’t approve transit funding to help plug the agency’s $213 million deficit. This was for the Route 88 in the Northeast which a lot of students rely on to get to/from school.

Twelve people were shot when a large group of people gathered and a gun battle broke out on South Etting Street near Dickinson in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia at 1 a.m. Three of the victims - men ages 19, 23 and 24 - were killed. The nine victims who survived are between 15 and 24.
