Bring back mince I reckon. It's a shame we've kind of left behind a lot of very delicious traditional foods like mince. Whilst chilli on toast would be unorthodox, I can't see why it shouldn't work. Also, chilli often has beans in, so it woulf be kind of pimped up beans on toast. 😁

Anyway, keep up the Friday evening provocative food posting. Love it. It's the kind of good humoured "debate" we all need. 👍

Well I haven't tried chilli on toast, but can't think why it shouldn't be good. Traditional British savoury mince certainly works on toast (even better if the bread is fried in dripping rather than toasted) and a baked potato though, and that's almost the same thing as a chilli.

What! Alan, I do really respect and appreciate your writing and posts, but come on. You really can't think alternatives to top toast and baked potatoes. Let me introduce you to cheese.

To quote Fergus Henderson, "simple is not easy". There is nowhere to hide sloppy details in a simple dish. Every element has to be smack on. That takes understanding and experience. Which the Italians obviously have with their cooking, and sadly we not so much in the UK.
