It turns other people’s survival into elite self-development, converting lived struggle into curriculum. It sanitizes empire. It rebrands capitalism. It turns revolution into resume building and makes injustice feel aspirational. It cloaks structural violence in the language of ambition, coaching elites to reflect while doing nothing that risks their position. What we are witnessing is not disruption. It’s containment. SMA is not about power redistribution. It’s about moral insulation. It doesn’t build movements. It builds brands. It doesn’t empower the marginalized. It platforms the already powerful and teaches them how to look benevolent while protecting their dominance. This is how empire survives critique.

Did I share this a few months ago when I first read it? I forget, and I still love it.

The whole thing is sparkly with righteous anger - and there are many WHAT THE FUCK moments throughout but I quite like this early one.

But Bregman’s bite has always stopped short of the bone. While he gained praise for allegedly challenging elites, he never seriously threatened their position. His criticisms—always strategic, never structural—served to elevate his brand, not to disrupt the systems he claimed to question. One of the more laughable moments in this spectacle came when actor Russell Crowe compared Bregman to Socrates. Rather than reject the absurdity, Bregman leaned into it. He even used it to market his work. But Socrates was executed for challenging the moral foundations of his society. Bregman has been embraced, groomed, and funded by those foundations. To liken a media-trained, TED-stage liberal to a historical threat to empire is not just exaggeration—it’s a distortion. Socrates was feared by power. Bregman is a safe investment.

Ley launches extraordinary attack on PM for ‘profound failure of judgment’ over Joy Division T-shirt Josh Butler Sussan Ley, who said the very spelling of her own name was due to her “punk phase”, has criticised Anthony Albanese for wearing the T-shirt of celebrated post-punk band Joy Division. Referencing a T-shirt Albanese wore five days ago when departing his plane on arrival in Sydney, Ley claimed it was a “profound failure of judgment” which “fails the basic tests of leadership”. She pointed out that Joy Division – the acclaimed and influential British band behind Love Will Tear Us Apart – had been named after “a wing of a Nazi concentration camp where Jewish women were forced into sexual slavery”. “At a time when Jewish Australians are facing a rise in antisemitism, when families are asking for reassurance and unity, the prime minister chose to parade an image derived from hatred and suffering,” Ley told parliament on Tuesday afternoon. Her office later distributed a transcript of the remarks to journalists. Ley’s statement pointed out that Albanese discussed the band in a podcast in 2022, and said he wasn’t aware at the time of the origin of the name. The Sky News host Sharri Markson ran a segment on her TV show about Albanese’s T-shirt on Monday night, with Ley’s comments making similar points about the band and Albanese’s knowledge of the name’s origin. The origin of Joy Division’s name is well known. The band dissolved after the death of its frontman, Ian Curtis, and its remaining members formed New Order. Ley went on to claim Albanese “should apologise immediately and explain why he thought this was acceptable”. Her comments come days after she briefly called for Kevin Rudd to be sacked as US ambassador – an overreach that several of her colleagues did not endorse, and which Ley later walked back after Liberal senator Jane Hume called it “churlish”.

I've gone peak Dad-mode on the ducted heater control panel.

It's gas, so I'm kind of hoping that it is never turned on again after this. Hopefully, I will have saved up the $6k I need for an electric replacement before next winter.

Yet investor exit from Victoria to other states has coincided with relatively slower rental price growth, up 33% since the start of 2021 compared to 40% or more in the other major capitals.

My new "Did I tell you I fixed our ducted vacuum cleaner *myself*?!": Our old dryer has been making house-shaking levels of noise for years.

I opened it up. Noticed the idler pulley was loose causing the fan belt to vibrate slightly, turning the drum into musical instrument. Replaced it.

This is not true. Reckless driving in an F150 is much more dangerous than reckless driving in a small car.

I don't think I'll ever get used to the idea that it is good journalism to repeat such bullshit without any effort at qualification. "He falsely claimed" would have fit a word count.
"I'm not going to tell them what sort of car they can buy, " he said. Mr Whitby said he was instead focused on driver behaviour. "Far too many people don't take responsibility," he said. "You can be in a huge F150 and a little Hyundai, and you can represent the same danger to other people on the road through reckless behaviour."

I've had a really long week, and I was just having a quick look on Facebook marketplace for a few things we need at the new house before I go to sleep.

Anyway, I found an "Antique 'Two faced cat'" and unexpectedly it gets a lot worse if you zoom in.

Moving house has been huge, physically and emotionally, and even though I knew kayaking had worked wonders on my chronic pain, I didn't really understand how much until the pain started again after I had gone two months without a paddle.

A talking point doesn't stop being bullshit if you repeat it. A low-end RCAC will beat a high-end gas heater in Victoria *today*, even in a home without solar and even ignoring that grid emissions intensity will continue to fall.

Here's the maths with the dice loaded *massively* in favour of gas.

For the purpose of the calculation, the reverse cycle unit has its coefficient of performance set at 3.6, which is very low for a new reverse cycle unit. Some units have a COP as high as 6. It is compared to a gas heater with 95% efficiency, which is about as high as it is possible to go with gas. Most gas heaters are around 80% efficient, with some as low as 60%. Nonetheless, using Victorian grid-supplied electricity and Victorian piped gas, the cheap reverse cycle air conditioner is still less emissions intensive than the high end ducted gas heater.

OK brains trust: I need to install a new internal fence at our new house that is about 10m long on an L-shape of about 5m east-west, then 5m north-south including a gate to keep this old husky from escaping.

What type of fence would you pick for a combination of cost, effectiveness and looks?
