Let’s take a deep dive into the legend of the Kraken, a large cephalopod from Norse mythology and Norwegian history that supposedly clings to ships, and people, dragging them down to the depths. This creature is based on giant squid, but there’s a heartbreaking explanation for their behavior.

Wearing an entire stuffed squirrel on your head seems silly, but it was serious business in the West in the 19th century. From birds to small mammals and even pets, nothing was off the table for those weirdos 😬

Wanna seduce a man? Are you willing to go blind? You might be a woman from the Italian Renaissance, using belladonna to dilate her pupils to seem sensual, while running the risk of going blind from prolonged use 👀 Better to just see your man after an eye exam at this point...

These are chopines, a platform shoe worn by women in the 15th-17th centuries in Italy and Spain. From a few inches to over 20 inches, the higher the height the more wealth and power you were perceived to have. Basically you could literally tower over your opps 👠

For some reason European women in the 15th century plucked and shaved their hairlines, sometimes by several inches, to make themselves seem sophisticated and intelligent. This is Elizabeth Woodville, Queen of England (c. 1437 – 1492)

In 14th-20th century China high ranking women wanted you to know they were rich. Like I don't lift a finger rich. So they grew their nails out to prove it, wearing jewel encrusted nail guards to ensure their nails were protected. Acrylics ain't got nothing on those divas 💅
