Crucial difference to 2016 and before is that HTS have spent years governing, running public services, etc…there’s a good chance life for people in Aleppo gets better now (with caveats, esp for minorities). The rest of the country will be watching.

The thing about our track record of home secretaries is that more than any other position in gov they are a reflection of the englander and his desire for thuggishness dressed up as righteousness.
