Some older sketching from the subway I never posted. I remember this was a day where I felt *on*!

Had a great time today doing a private color workshop for a lovely mother & daughter. We talked about the Munsell Color System, and how to use the ideas behind it to mix any color. Then they practiced mixing colors, and we talked about how light affects color. #painting #artteacher

A clip from a previous Accurate Drawing Skills workshop of mine. Talking about one of my favorite quotes from Ted Seth Jacobs:

"What we draw is not, in fact, the things we see, but the relationships between them."

See the process from sketch to finish!

This was my first month-long drawing at @grandcentralatelier. To say I learned a lot on this would be a *huge* understatement! Jennifer was a really amazing model.

I still love sketching on the train! About 90% of them end up just a few lines before they move too much. But every now and then I get someone who holds still enough for a while. Here's one!

Color study for my in-progress portrait commission. The goal for something like this is to make all the major color decisions ahead of time. I can then pre-mix a lot of these colors and get right to it on the final piece. Saves me from a lot of surprises and frustrations!

Realized I never posted this! This was my final month-long pose at @grandcentralatelier. A drawing of the legendary @freddyborges2. I was working very slowly at the time and I was *determined* to finish this one. But I just didn't make it!

I have two online workshops coming up:

The first is "Intro to Shading." You'll learn how to create 3D shading with a sculptural feel.

The second is "Accurate Drawing Skills." You'll learn clear, straightforward skills to get accurate proportions and perspective with ease.

DM me if interested!

This drawing is a bit interesting because I worked on it 3 different times over the years—the original drawing in 2019 , then touched up after a workshop at Grand Central Atelier in 2020, then touched up again after the Drawing Year at Grand Central Atelier in 2023.

It's good to do work even if you don't have total understanding. By "doing" here, I'm talking about the experience gained just by doing the physical act of drawing or painting. So, even if you don't fully understand what you're doing...draw anyway!

Preparatory drawing for an in-progress portrait commission. Really enjoyed capturing the personalities of these twins!

Here's a digital sketch I did the other day of a cosplayer named Felicia as Scarlet Witch. This started out as just a quick test of an idea I had while sitting in our living room. But I got cozy and just kept working on it. #art #digitalart #scarletwitch #cosplay

I did this drawing a few years ago and it ultimately sent me back to school and kicked off all of my current work. It was the first piece where I didn't worry about time constraints and just took it as far as I could. Drawn from a cosplay by @lis.wonder. #drawing #art #pencil #portrait #cosplay
