The realization full on slapped me in the face as I was watching, realizing that in almost ANY other show that lusting over a boy would have been shown by the girl showing *him* affection, posturing sexily towards *him*, making herself available to *him.*

The ways it allowed the girls to lust after boys in a way that didn’t make the boys the center of the scene really exposed to me how drastically all the other media skewed things. Wasting the Kpop girls go awOOOOOGAH over the pretty boy’s abs, but also happily doing it from a distance.

I remember thinking the same thing about Disney’s Turning Red (not that two movies constitute a trend, although Ms. Marvel did similar things too iirc). It showed those girls to goof off and be silly in a way that felt authentic (even within each of their very trope-y group dynamics)
