But also I picture my friend’s apartment in downtown Los Angeles because I’d always remember which unit was his because he lived in unit 216, easy to remember as the only perfect cube on the 2nd floor.

I guess whenever I encounter a number I often think about what makes it special, and 8 and 27 both pop out to me as being special for the same reason, because they are perfect cubes. Then I think 2x2x2x3x3x3 and we can combine those into three 6’s and I know that’s 216 because I love perfect cubes!

I’m a perfect cube kind of guy so I just say that is 6 cubed which is 216!

I find half-comedically making a mistake and letting the students correct me really opens them up. Like if I slowly count 1, 2, 3, 5, 6

Oops, missed that comment. I consider trying a strategy that you don’t know will lead to success to be good risk taking (that doesn’t necessarily need to be public).

I don’t have the source but wish this was talked about more. It seems almost all students, even super advanced ones, are petrified of taking risks. Maybe productive struggle type sources are partially what you are looking for?

I wonder if it would float in isopropyl alcohol?

Just applied, guessing what might be my main interest a year from now.
