“Tell me this is not what authoritarianism looks and sounds like,” our columnist Ezra Klein writes. “And so the question is: What are Democrats going to do about it? What can they do about it?”

ProPublica looked into science grants that Ted Cruz's team flagged as "radical" and "neo-Marxist" and, uh.

This would be good comedy if it didn't matter so much www.propublica.org/article/ted-...

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

My deepest take, a rather new one, is that the specialization of modern society both creates and requires ignorance of... a lot.

It is impossible to know all the things, which means there's value in individuals knowing a lot about some things, and those individuals exploit knowledge gaps.

Food for thought: A lot of people, me included, have been ragging on Zuckerberg for 180'ing completely on the FB platform. There is an interesting plotline that it seems is being largely neglected, though:

This got me curious, so data: The Fed's had a formal 2% target since 2012. The current 3-month moving average of deviation from 2% is 0.285.

The mean absolute value of the 2012-24 deviation is 1.19.

There have only been 24 of 155 (15.5%) months where we've ever been <closer> to target than now.
