I didn't have huge expectations for Starmer's government given their ming vase campaign strategy but I did expect more than this. How on earth does a human rights lawyer lose his way like this?

One of the reasons I love living in London is that here diversity & multiculturalism is not just tolerated, it's also celebrated.

Arriving in the UK, I used to tell people about Finland (education is free incl. universities, universal child benefits etc) & their response was: "sounds like utopia".

But it wasn't. Just political choices, many made when we were a poor country.

The system - also here - is what we choose it to be

It's true that in many ways equality is more prevalent in Nordic countries but where we're going, doesn't look good: inequality is rising, we have a horrible right-wing government in Finland etc. It's worrying.

I find it funny how presenters in the UK say:"isn't Green Party meant to be just about the environment." Like it's a difficult concept that environmental justice and social & economic justice go together.
Coming from a Nordic country, this doesn't sound 'radical' at all, just very common sense.

She is telling an accurate story of recent history - the triple punch of austerity, Brexit and covid. It's spot on. But it is terribly strange to say it now in government when you were not prepared to say it in opposition.
