Just discarding everything we do not like as "state capitalism" is just a cheap way not to face the challenges and failures "socialism" ended up in...
After all the idea of the GDR was a socialist society... Not state capitalism.

The purpose of socialism is to organize the ownership of the means of production within the collective or social construct. As a collective will always be systemic. It will always situate somewhere on the axis of democracy or totalitarian rule.
