Monarch Butterfly larva on our milkweed. Our granddaughter is visiting and she loves looking for them. Sometimes I catch a glimpse, but her young hawk eyes zoom in on these little munchers. We are always pleased to see them.

Oregon Coast Bridge. As we travel, I like to take pics of bridges we cross. We travelled from British Columbia, Canada to northern California and back. I find most bridges become landmarks after they are built.

Canada Goose family walked across the fairway today while I sauntered down the fairway chasing a yellow golf ball. It was a pleasant moment with clear blue skies and warm sun.

Our Redbud Trees have leaves that have or are opening. They are heart-shaped and have a brilliant green colour. The new leaves have a soft reddish tinge to them. This is a wonderful tree to have in our garden.

We have poppies growing in our backyard and one popped today!
It reminds me to be grateful to my father and grandfather who served in WW2. Grandpa served in WW1 too.
They both survived to return to their families thankfully.
It doesn't have to be Remembrance Day to be grateful for their service.

Volunteers have pulled hundreds of tires from our local Little River. It was hard to believe another tire appeared 22 April, Earth Day! We think the Winter season causes the tires to heave out of the mud at the bottom of the river.

Our Windsor-Essex community planted over 2000 trees and shrubs yesterday to celebrate Earth Day. We saw Canada geese, Mute swans, Red-winged blackbirds and Mallard ducks. A Red-tailed hawk soared high above also. We like to see this wildlife using the natural area while we plant trees and shrubs.

“It may be that when we no longer know which way to go,
we have come to our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings”.

This is an example of naturalization. Mown grass to woodland 30 years later. Our group planted 100 trees in a grassy area and the City of Windsor Park and Forestry Department agreed to stop cutting the grass. This creates forest habitat that benefits local wildlife in the Detroit River Watershed.

19 April, 2025: Hermit Thrush on a Redbud Branch. I was lucky enough to catch a photo of a calm bird this afternoon. A Hermit Thrush flew through our area today. We are fortunate to have these birds visit during Spring migration. They don’t stay, they visit, grab a snack and they are on their way.
