Hello pottery enthusiasts and creative souls!
After many unexpected setbacks, I finally completed my very first Obvara firing — and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you!
Always remember
Never let fear stop you from reaching for a goal.

Horsehair firing is a fast and intuitive process—there’s no time to hesitate! As the pot rapidly cools, the hair must be applied between 1100-900 degrees to create its signature carbon trails. Every piece is a balance of timing, movement, and instinct, making each one truly one of a kind.

Just keep going. No matter how slow your steps know, you are doing great.

Watch as this moon jar takes shape! Stretching the form allows the colored surface to crack, creating a beautiful, organic texture that adds depth to the final piece. The transformation is always exciting to see!

Horsehair and other materials like feathers can be added to the surface of a pot immediately from a kiln at around 1100-900 degrees. The heat causes the materials to burn away, leaving behind carbon patterns. Each one a one-of-a-kind creation!

Mistakes are part of the journey—we all make them. But true failure only happens when we stop trying to move past them. Learn, grow, and keep pushing forward. Every mistake is just another step toward improvement!

I This sculpted saggar vase features a beautifully altered surface, creating a truly one-of-a-kind texture. The unique patterns from the firing process make this piece a standout.

One of the few piece left in my shop drop but I do love it.

This is a short clip of making a crackle vase. This process starts with adding sodium silicate, followed by a colored slip to make the texture pop. As I stretch the form, the cracks develop, creating a unique design.

Let me know what you think of the process.
