May 11, 1903: Charlie Gehringer is born in Fowlerville, Michigan. The Hall of Famer played all 19 of his major league seasons with the Tigers. Led the AL in hits, runs, doubles, triples, & stolen bases in 1929. MVP in 1937. World champ in 1935

May 10, 1868: Ed Barrow is born in Springfield, Ill. Tigers manager from 1903-04. Managed Babe Ruth & the Red Sox from 1918-1920, then joined the Yankees front office and helped build their dynasty in the 1920s

May 8, 1901: Norman "Turkey" Stearnes is born in Nashville. The Negro Leagues legend played for the Detroit Stars in the 1920s. His .615 career slugging percentage ranks 5th all-time in major league history. Satchel Paige said, "He was as good as anybody who ever played ball."
