That's why they just barf random words out of their mouths. To see who loves them and who doesn't right now. It's all immediate attention seeking. Narcissists have no interior lives, so they're WYSIWYG. There is no 3-D chess here. It's just "Who loves me right now because I need some attention."

Remember that they don't always care about the issue you disagree with them on. Just the fact that you disagreed. It's a test to see who loves them and who doesn't, so they can be rewarded with attention, because they figure everyone wants the attention they want. Silent treatment is the punishment.

He told me this because i was saying I'd looked it up on YouTube but the video was longer than 7 minutes, which was my personal cutoff for DIY. That was when I'd bring in a professional, and he found that most women he dealt with had a cutoff, but men would persevere (derogatory).
