Books & Pumpkins! Rather than throw your pumpkins from the season in the trash, consider composting, donating them to local farms or zoos, or do what we do, leave them for wildlife. As the pumpkins decompose, the seeds inside will be the next generations of vines.

Halloween! Fable and Stella are the twins from The Shining. No AI. Just classic copy & paste. In 1974, @stephenking.bsky.social and his wife Tabby, also a novelist, spent a night at the Stanley Hotel, inspiring one of the world’s most famous horror novels.

National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! Throwing it back to 1990s with this pic of me and Dolly. Having had rescue dogs my whole life, I can tell you they are amazing. Plus, a study from 1950-2019 found dog owners had a lower risk of cardiovascular issues. Dogs are good for your heart!

It’s Woolly Bear season, which means these fuzzy caterpillars are popping up. They’re also known as the predictors of winter. According to folklore, if there is more black on a woolly bear, the more severe the winter weather.

October is Bat Appreciation Month! These photos are of the bat that got in the house. We set him on his way in the woods. Bats are amazing, and without them, it would be a world without fruits like bananas and avocados, which are among the 300 fruits that rely on bats for pollination.

Books for Treats Day, created to encourage sharing books for Halloween! I thought I'd pair my books with a treat. You'll spot: TSME/ice cream. Betty/fudge. Hint: Fraya's fudge. The Wand Keepers/cookie buttons. OTSS/ peach cobbler. If you've read the book, you'll know why I picked yellow fruit!

It's that time of year when bucks rub their antlers, and if you swipe through the photos, you'll get to see trees that the bucks have visited. Bucks like to rub their antlers on young tree trunks in the fall, because it removes the velvet coating from their antlers.

The figs are ripening in the garden. Fun fact, there is archaeological evidence that shows they have been growing for around 80 million years, which means they survived the fifth mass extinction that wiped out the non-avian dinosaurs. Figs have proved even hardier than the T-Rex.
