May’s reads. I need a lot of escapism. And have a coworker who wants to read more so…

April’s reads. This was my lightest month for completed books with only three finished. Second month running of mostly nonfiction.

March’s finished books. More nonfiction than fiction, which is unusual for me.

Slowing down in April with only one book completed as of today.

Books I finished in February.

Snowy first Saturday of winter break. Reading with a cup of tea. There is still a lot of organizing to do, but it is important to know when to rest, and how to refill your cup as an organizer.

Working with so many spreadsheets and data tools lately has me thinking of this meme from more than a decade ago.

Yes, organizing demands A LOT of 1-1s, group meetings, and actions… but it also requires plenty of desk work.

Used to describe this to apprentices as “hurry up and wait”.

A GRANDMOTHER BEGINS THE STORY

Another of my fav reads of 2024. A great pick if you’re looking for a Native American Heritage Month read, or just love the idea of multiple generations of women healing themselves, their ancestors, and their descendants.

I'm here for bringing back the embossed denim! My spouse got me this vintage one and it is one of my favs though... even though I am not AFSCME currently I still wear it to picket lines. My current unions don't have good gear.

Here is a group of educators I helped organize during a contract fight. Their agreement was expiring, so they decided to all wear black to the meeting.

Caturday! 😻

Celebrating Cider. First cat we adopted as a couple. Found this sweetie at a Maine Coon rescue in South Jersey in 2018.

This sounds more like base-building and community care, to me.

What do you think, @stephluce.bsky.social?

Workers cannot rely on laws as the source of their power.

This was one of my early lessons as an intern with the AFL-CIO organizing institute when I was assigned to an AFT local.

It’s been a lesson I’ve seen again and again.

When an Oregonian (or really anyone from the Pacific Northwest) said something is evergreen, please call to mind the power of a forest of 250+ ft. tall Douglas Fir Trees.

That is the power of working people standing together.

First of three highlights from this article.

LISTENING to folks is key.

Good organizers know that the people affected must be part of crafting the solution, or it will fail.

Condescension—and telling people what they need, or should want—will get us nowhere.

Oh! What about diverging stacked bar charts?

These make likert scales so much easier to digest!

Welcome to the new followers. I check y’all out as time allows, but would love to hear from you if you want to engage.

My social media use is intermittent at best, so I don’t want anyone to feel slighted.

Another fav read of 2024 so far. I picked this up at Eight Cousins in Falmouth over the summer. #BookSky

@skitchpeck.bsky.social are these at all related, or is it a coincidence that your display name is one of our fav bedtime books?!

This tree is usually the last to drop its leaves in our yard. This was what it looked like a week ago. Today it is almost bare. It is my personal signal of the change in seasons.
