This wee guy is the same. He was very annoyed that we wouldn’t take him for a walk in 28C heat this week…

It’d also worth adding that you can use it in pretty much any setting and time period. All our games so far have been based at various points in earth history (with some artistic licence!)

In the pirates setting they’re openly in the world. In Victorian London they were a secret part of the Department of Ungentlemanly Warfare. We might have blown our cover unleashing a T-Rex and sphinx on the city…

It really depends on your setting and the system is very flexible. We’ve had a couple of approaches. In some settings mages are known to non-magic users, in others they’ve been a small and relatively unknown group.

I’ve also used it to create a bubble of air to transport the party underwater. There’s so many options and a really creative party can produce some interesting characters and purviews.

My current pirate water mage has blast to fire water at enemies, summons ranging from giant crabs to incite fear, to my ultimate summon - the kraken. I also have reality warp, so could create difficult terrain on an enemy ship by turning the deck to water.

It uses a 1d10 for rolls and as a relatively inexperienced player I’ve found character creation and play really easy to pick up. I think the beauty of the system is that you can pick any setting and time period and the only limit on purview is imagination.

You pick from 17 spells including blast, reality warping, and create magical items or summons related to your purview. Spells work differently depending on your purview, teleportation lets you teleport between things associated with your Purview, so a Mirror Mage could teleport between mirrors.

You play as a mage with a specific purview for your magic. That can be absolutely anything, water, weather, animals, art, music, food, vehicles, you name it, you can be a mage. I have played with darkness, feet, cat, horse, blood and annoyance mages in a variety of settings.

Have you tried Urban Mages? Created and written by a friend and well worth checking out www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/4... I’m currently playing a water mage in a pirate setting 🏴‍☠️
Urban Mages - Max Jowett | DriveThruRPG
You play a Mage. All your magic revolves around a single theme, and that theme can be anything you want. From Fire, to Music, to Ice Cream. The only limits are your imagination. Explore a world that's...
