#ECTE2025 The first 2 keynotes by José Iriarte and Nina Witteveen were absolutely great, they were talking about the ecological legacy and the impact past populations had on the vegetation in the Amazon basin and the Guiana Shield (Suriname in particular). 🌾🌿🌴🔥🌽🍌🏺🌎

Let me introduce Lilu, #Vizsla mix, hungarian rescue (association Vizsla in Not 🧡). She's 9 and she's the sweetest. Her presence helped me go through depression after I tragically lost my first rescue dog, Karina from Tiere in Spanien, Ridgeback mix 🐶🕊 #DogsofBlueSky

'When in doubt, put it in Flacourtiaceae' that made me smile 😆

Trooical anthracologists be like, 'when in doubt, put it in Rubiaceae'

Polarized light helps to spot #crystals in #wood slides. Here in Pittosporum abyssinicum (Pittosporaceae) and Schrebera alata (Oleaceae) (samples from Ethiopia).
The mastering of wood slicing also helps! Wood slides processed by Jennifer Markwirth. 🪵🪚🔬💠

I like when charcoals show very specific anatomical features that make them easy to identify: eg. vessels in tangential bands, very large rays. Here is a Proteaceae, Faurea rochetiana 🤓 #EthiopianWood #Anthracology
October 9, 2023 at 4:24 PM
Atomic mushrooms? Nope, this is the wood (charcoal) anatomy of Neea sp. (Nyctaginaceae) in transverse section. The large 'holes' correspond to the included phloem and the smaller ones below are vessels. #Anthracology #WoodAnatomy #Charcoal
