If you have mini people aged 4-7, there is a lovely new show out today on C5/Milkshake from today called Stan and Gran. It's full of gags and nature facts. Also I wrote some of it, and it's all expertly head written by @howardread.bsky.social. My first ep is out next Monday (its all about worms 🪱🪱🪱)

Forensic teams continue their work in Huntingdon published at 19:46 19:46 Alison Earle Reporting from Huntingdon station I’ve just arrived at Huntingdon station and the first thing you notice is how quiet it is. There are very few passers-by and many of the news crews that were reporting on last night’s incident have packed up for the day. Every now and again that quiet is broken by a high-speed train going past. The east coast route is up and running again, although trains are not stopping here. But at the station itself, forensics teams are still at work on the platform and inside the train where the stabbings took place, and in the station car park. That evidence will no doubt form part of the investigation and help to build a picture of how this attack unfolded.

Love these Maurice Sendak quotes from today’s Looking At Picture Books post (Jon Klassen & Mac Barnett’s brilliant substack) called ‘On Respecting Kids, But Not Being Boring About It.’

Maybe I am hung up on the word “interesting” because right now I am reading a collection of interviews with Maurice Sendak. And the back of the book has this pull quote: “You cannot write for children. They’re much too complicated. You can only write books that are of interest to them.” MAC: Sendak is talking about his very direct connection to his own childhood: “Being in that kind of contact with my childhood is vital to me, but it doesn’t make me perfectly certain. I know what I’m doing in my work. Especially in books for children under six. I don’t think anyone really knows what kids that young like and what they don’t like. They’re formless, fluid creatures—like moving water. You can’t stop one of them at any one point and know exactly what’s going on. A child may react strongly to a book because it reaches him emotionally in some way the author intended. Then, again, it may be that he once saw a duck from a train window and never saw one again until he looked at the book, and though the book is rotten, he loves it because there’s a duck in it.”

Absolutely loved City The Animation. Completely bananas, very funny, sometimes confusing and often touching. It’s buried away in the depths of Prime but so worth a watch if you like sweet but bonkers anime. (And do watch past the credits most episodes)
