Trios are an interesting theme in this game.
There's the starting trio of Fire, Water, Grass.
There's the Eeveelutions and Legendary Beasts of Fire, Water... Electric.
There are TM Punches for Fire, Electric... Ice. (These echo the bird legends of Gen I.)
I almost admire the lack of cohesion here.

Why do I need to save whenever I change boxes on the PC? I'm sure there's a tech reason. It's intriguing.

Type balance in this game is super out of whack, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. I find it a bummer though.

The Mahogany Rocket Base sequence is great. Teaming up with Lance, eventual champion, is good for pacing. The plot to make Pokémon mad could have been started earlier, but it is still sinister.
I really like the remorselessness of the Rocket scientists.
