not a democracy. That kind of argument is making a comeback as well. Heard it from my local school board a few months ago.

not on unjust systems. I think that kind of thinking still clouds thinking/ is leaned on to avoid responsibility for unjust systems.

I recently learned about Talmadge’s 1955 pro-segregation book, ‘You and Segregation’. On page 17 he makes the argument that the US is a republic, not a democracy. That was another common subject of newspaper articles and opinion pieces from that era that is making a comeback today.
