Through applying advanced behavioral assessment including 50-kHz ultrasonic vocalizations as a marker for positive affect, @tianhuawang.bsky.social from the @wohrlab.bsky.social demonstrated that arousal and euphoria vastly depend on intact serotonergic neurotransmission. @britpharmsoc.bsky.social

The party drug MDMA (“ecstasy”) shows promising efficacy as adjunct to psychotherapy. The psychostimulant with entactogenic properties is known to induce arousal and euphoria. We now studied the neurochemistry underlying the behavioral effects of MDMA in rats lacking serotonin in the brain.

Our A09 PI @markuswohr.bsky.social was part of a new publication 🐀

Alterations in social adjustment via Tph2 deficiency likely contribute to growth retardation through reduced quality of mother-pup interactions 😭

In mice, rats, and monkeys, a lack of serotonin in the brain leads to impaired maternal affiliation. @tianhuawang.bsky.social now showed that early social enrichment has ameliorating effects but leaves prominent reduction in pup ultrasonic calling untouched.

It’s that time of the year again: LBP retreat! Rudi D’Hooge and @markuswohr.bsky.social labs gathered together for 2 full days of science. A special thank you to Dr. Elodie Ey for bringing her expertise on animal research to this event!

Nice completion of my core PhD work. (I personally like this story more than the 1st one🤫). Thanks to Markus and all other collaborators. ❤️
Serotonin deficiency in the brain leads to deficits in mother-offspring interaction, maternal affiliation, and social adjustment. Can this be rescued by early social enrichment? New study led by @tianhuawang.bsky.social @unimarburg.bsky.social. Thanks to all collaborators. doi.org/10.1016/j.pn...
