Across party lines, many opposed the gas tax hike because Washington already has one of the highest gas tax rates in the U.S., road conditions haven’t noticeably improved despite past hikes, and there remains strong bipartisan resistance to new taxes.

This is the lowest approval rating during the first six months of a Washington Governor since Mike Lowry in 1993.

When respondents asked why they gave a negative approval rating 42% said it was due to the new 6-cent gas tax increase.
