Emphasis on *existing tech*. Lots of innovation in the space. Generally speaking, if the Norwegians (otherwise drowning in renewable and fossil resources) are playing with it, it probably doesn't suck.

Matt Dunlap is a very good candidate and would likely have given Golden a real run for the money. Dunlap is an actual Democrat, but may be a better candidate than Golden against LePage, who assumes he can just ride the Trump train to DC. (It is CD2, so he may be right.)

Definitely true on both counts. But Platner will fade, and Mills unlikely to inherit much of his support. RCV will play a role here.

Here it is not clear whether the stated aim of the programs is from the perspective of the critics, the author, or the programs' creators and teachers. The actual aim is to shed light on the subjects. Including (and explicitly recognizing) multiple perspectives is merely the means to an end.

Thank goodness for ranked-choice voting!

But you are questioning the role of race in the preferences of voters?
October 15, 2025 at 3:08 PM
Do you recognize that history is rife with examples of racially discriminatory election laws that never explicitly cite the race of the voter?

With focus on "violence", feels like a companion/sequel to Douglas North, where her so-called "dysfunctional state" really describes a transition to his "natural state". www.google.com/books/editio...
Violence and Social Orders
All societies must deal with the possibility of violence, and they do so in different ways. This book integrates the problem of violence into a larger social science and historical framework, showing ...

This discussion circles around disease/cure/treatment of the body politic. Klein can't admit that lauding an aggressive cancer for "winning" is obviously a fail, and that defeating that cancer, while a noble pursuit, may in fact kill the patient. Give me Dr. Coates any day.

Good context presented by David Frum and Tina Brown on the contemporaneous episode of David Frum show. www.theatlantic.com/podcasts/arc...

Tina Brown on how extreme wealth warps minds. Plus: hopes and fears after Trump’s strike against Iran’s nuclear program.

737 Max is the mother of all Venn diagrams where many trends across technical, cultural, political, industrial and economic areas converged. As such, it is not really a good example to use here IMO. But for airplane nerds, this is a classic presentation: youtu.be/V5_GENu6aqg?...

Before that debate, one should resolve their views on creative destruction, right?

Yes! Big eye roll when I saw that. Hey maybe the "reproducibility" challenge is similar, but the reasons for this are completely different.

If Maine elects a MAGA senator (and there*are* plenty of Trumpers up here), then the pooch is truly screwed.

Anyone from Portland can see that is a piece of a casco bay ferry. Probably was tied/snagged by rope to pier as ferry pulled out and the thing finally busted and was shot into the parking lot. Reminder that ropes under tension are powerful! (Young fisherman from downeast killed last week by rope.)

Exactly! In a democracy, voters have no agency. That would be crazy!

Yes indeed! It appears the result count is itself BS ... Since two wrongs make right, my BS-o-meter is actually definitive, perhaps even "award winning"!

Then why not find a sponsor to submit a bill in the Maine state legislature, Jared? Support for this federal law, and your confidence in the administrations of states fully assimilated into the federal GOP, reveals a shocking naivete.
