Follower of Victorian scandals.
Author: A SHATTERED IDOL - THE LORD CHIEF JUSTICE AND HIS TROUBLESOME WOMEN. (Marble Hill, London - pub'd 8 May 2025). "Society never had such a peep into the manners of our titled men."
The Guardian panned it. I watched episode 1 and it seemed worthy.

Villiers was a lifelong bachelor. He was once engaged to an heiress w/250,000; when she casually joked he only wanted her money, he broke it off. Neither ever wed. Years later, she left it all to him; he never spent it. Gave it away. A Bachelor's Romance, Auckland Star 28 Mar 98.

Why is it always the case that when I set the dates for a London visit, I arrive too late or too early for some great stuff (like this)?

The legendary "Paddington" Pollaky was celebrated for his regular postings in The Times personals. e.g. 100£ for the information leading to the person sending postcards to a lady in Notting Hill. – POLLAKY. The man seemed to get results: Marquise – Broken Reed will trouble you no more. POLLACKY.

I have relied on & acknowledged Ancestry etc. Most recently, the rootschat folks who traced the curious Victorian 1st marriage (annulled) of Amy Lawford, who some years later wed Lord Chief Justice Coleridge. A Shattered Idol: The Lord Chief Justice & His Troublesome Women (Marble Hill 2025).

Are these "pings" the addresses of pornographers or devotee/collectors, or HS Ashbee, who combined interests?

Mildred Coleridge lived in Park Crescent (1850s). She was sickly and her nanny took her thru the tunnel into Regents Park to roll around where the sheep slept as it was "wonderfully strengthening." Mentioned in my book, A Shattered Idol (2025)

I would go with Samuel Plimsoll (L) Derby - the Victorian whose Plimsoll Line saved thousands of mariners. The Maritime Museum has (or had) a unique Plimsoll glass, perfect for anything on the rocks (preferably not a ship.)

As late as 1885, no less a figure than the Lord Chief Justice of England, John Duke Coleridge, would say no more than, "We are better - in the main - for the abolition of dueling." see A Shattered Idol - The Lord Chief Justice & His Troublesome Women (2025) 173.

Great news. How do I follow up to be sure my newly published book - "A Shattered Idol," Marble Hill Publishers, 8 May 2025 - has been received, catalogued, etc?
