This is also why they move to 3 person crews, as the autoloader *made* the 115mm and 125mm guns able to be loaded in smaller turrets, which meant you could armor more of the turret for less size. Now, *the autoloader* (T-64)

(T-72/90) The issues show up in that the autoloader's 22 rounds is considered too little for combat use, and so the tanks end up with *much* more ammo stowage in the turret.
Notably, the *turret* is ofc where most tanks are hit and so- that's were we get these images:
