Hello, haven't posted here for ages, I am a bit rubbish at posting my art on the socials.

Went to see Ken Currie: The Crossing/An Turas in Inverness this week, amazing paintings!

I've been playing with some limited palettes recently, and here's a wee canvas board I painted the day after the visit.
A square canvas board that is eight inches square painted with acrylics. The background is a chromatic black painted over pyrrole red so the red is visible in places. The painting is a portrait of an older face using muted greys with red from the ground peeking through. There is only the face emerging from the shadows.

Instead of using the photo reference, I used a previous painting of the reference as a reference, and also enforced standing further back from the easel. I was also having an inner dialogue about art and creativity (see previous post).

Tried another way of laying paint down. I found the hour too short for this method, rushed, and managed to paint out too many shadows, and the cheeks are odd, but I learned a few things, which is the point.
