The draw of the phone is simple: Trump likes to call people. He likes to be called. Unknown numbers come with a thrill akin to putting a coin in a gumball machine and waiting to see which flavor rolls out. Surrendering the phone would be inconvenient, limiting, and so he keeps it. As for any efforts to control him and his cellphone use, "I think people gave up on that years ago," one adviser told us, adding that "probably a ton" of people have Trump's personal number.

Well the tech bros did arbitrarily intervene by turning off the AFU’s comms. But don’t worry, they would never do something like that to us and we should totally trust them.
There are some risks to tying America's military more closely to the tech-heavy private sector. Companies don't always act in the country's national interest. Elon Musk infamously limited the Ukrainian military's access to its Starlink satellites, preventing them being used to help in a battle with Russian forces in 2022. Private companies are also easier for adversaries to penetrate and influence than the government.

Perhaps what Kid Rock is really upset about is that Fletcher from Pennywise came out to visit that summer, Pennywise was not on the tour. Fletcher confronted Kid in Asbury Park, NJ and tore his gold chain off his neck and threw it away. Now, this was definitely an immature move but it was hilarious at the time and many felt deserved.

Or a biologist is saying, "Wow, it just really helped me figure this thing out," he says. I don’t get it. The EU, Japan, and South Korea “accept” the tariffs on them but the rest of the world has tariffs imposed on their goods?

The US decides what tariffs to impose on imports so is this “accept” in the sense of:

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.”

With the dictator finally under their control, the rebels celebrated. In one of the defining images of the conflict, a young rebel was seen being carried on his comrades' shoulders, holding a golden gun decorated with intricate engravings. That gun belonged to Gaddafi himself, supposedly given to him by one of his sons. This is what I call the Golden Gun paradox: tyrants can have all the trappings of power, even a gun made of gold, but at the point where they need to use their power to save themselves, it is already too late. A dictator can never save himself with a golden gun. For Gaddafi, holding the gun only imbued power as long as people believed it did. The moment they stopped, the gun was useless.
