HIGHLY recommend Jessica Pishko’s “The Highest Law in the Land: How the Unchecked Power of Sheriffs Threatens Democracy.” There’s actually no governing body for sheriffs on a national level, and *many* states are just like AL. It’s WILD. This book is eye-opening, to say the least.
