i know many people swear by protonmail and tuta, although i've never tried them myself. i personally use icloud mail (many privacy-oriented people avoid apple, which is reasonable)

something to look out for though is that protonmail and tuta only provide 1GB of storage for free, unlike google's 15

for google in particular, using an adblocker around the web + not using google (the search engine)/gmail can limit what they collect on you by a lot

if you wanna see what data they have about you currently, they have a tool called “google takeout” (uncheck google drive from the export)
