It's not going to be "Judgment at Nuremberg" and I don't think anyone going in should expect that. It may very well be much worse, even quite bad. But I am interested to see.

Strongly agreed - TNG feels far more like an ensemble than TOS. The TOS movies spread things around more, but the show itself is really mostly about those 3.

McCoy insulting Spock works because Spock gives as good as he takes. Data is just too passive.

This is what makes all post TOS writing of Spock frustrating IMO - they write him like Data but he's very different from Data.

I can't say I was into it, but I do think the reasons I'm not into it have changed since undergrad (in convergence to what you were saying).
