I think there’s a 3e book for the Celtic?
TL 1 could be Ancient Egypt? (TL 0 is cavemen, and there’s a Pyramid issue for that. Ancient Greece is TL 2, and has its own 3e book.)

Onboarding in GURPS requires an engaged GM who prepped like hell. (Veteran players lending a hand is also a huge bonus.)
Good character templates help a lot, but a GM should be there at the side to guide the player.
Once you’re over the hump of character creation, you’re mostly in the clear.

War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning devoted a decent amount of analysis to this war and its social side (the propaganda, the public opinion, the government’s psychology, etc.) which is rather insightful.

It’s better to just read the intro to get a handle on what a Skill, Advantage and Disadvantage is, and going back to specific entries in the chapters when needed.
Reading through those chapters one page after another like “normal” is kinda like filling up on bread before the main course arrives.

I think the main snafu for learning GURPS is that people make the logical decision of just reading THROUGH the chapters on Advantages, Disadvantages and Skills. And that sabotages their reading by overloading them with big honking lists of currently irrelevant info. 1/2

The GURPS Spaceships books, from what I have read, simplifies this down to a mere number depending on TL.
