THRACE-CONNECT explores the ancient communication networks linking Aegean Thrace to its inland regions via the Rhodope Mountains, from the Archaic to the Roman period. By integrating archaeological, historical, and geospatial data, the project investigates the Rhodope as a transitional zone and cultural crossroads. Utilizing GIS technologies and advanced visualization techniques, it aims to reconstruct ancient routes and uncover the socio-cultural dynamics that shaped the region.  Objectives   Apply GIS technologies to study the archaeological record of Aegean Thrace, focusing on the Rhodope Mountains.  Reconstruct and map ancient communication networks in the Rhodope Mountains region.  Analyze the geographical and cultural significance of the area.  Examine the dynamics of trade and cultural exchanges between Greeks and Thracians.  Develop a methodology for archaeology of the mountains.  Disseminate findings to the public through digital tools.  Expected Outcomes   The project will generate new insights into Thrace’s ancient communication networks, foster interdisciplinary research, and enhance understanding of cultural interaction in the region. It will also produce an open-access dataset and interactive content, promoting public engagement and cultural awareness.
