I mean The Doctor will get infinite regeneration cycles forever so it is possible that at some point he just says "fuck it" and spend a cycle smurfing it, and whenever he does that that's James Bond.

I'm just mad there are pieces of the memex concept that there's no really *nice* way to do on the web 80 years later.

But I think Bonfire is well-positioned to tackle the more intimate kinds of social networking that are deeply valuable and that atproto in particular is a really bad fit for.
(subject to change as I dig in deeper but I don't think it will)

Unless I'm misreading the docs it seems like account portability is still a bit iffy compared to bluesky, but I think the current status of the ap ecosystem unfortunately makes that unavoidable. :-(

Bonfire looks amazing and I need to dig into them more because it sure SEEMS like they're doing a lot of the stuff I've wanted the fediverse to do.

Yeah the closest thing I saw to this prior was eww, which is cool but also... deeply eccentric and apparently kinda buggy.

Wait what the fuck this exists? This is awesome!

Which is, like. Not ENTIRELY unreasonable, but you know you can just use untyped collections of J-LD if you want, right?

Yeah it looks like they are, in fact, lexiconizing RDF/JSON-LD.

I have yet to see evidence that the GNOME team are nazis.

What did you use for json transformation?

What did you use for json transformation?
- Turing Complete
- Unpleasant to write
- Complex to implement
- Lack of quality open-source implementations (of the newer versions with json support) across languages
- Dealing with facets will probably be painful

The database format and environment variables are also supported by some other input libraries, but I can't tell you how popular they are and SDL is VERY popular.

SDL_Gamepad solves this, and there are large community-maintained databases of mappings beyond even what SDL ships with, which can be injected into any game that uses SDL_Gamepad via environment variable.

Also, atproto's been designed to make it POSSIBLE to replace any
provider in the network. Even PLC is... technically replaceable, although in practice I'm very glad plc is heavily insulated from incentive to moderate.

I mean all moderation is feudal to an extent because any server operator will have discretion over what you put on their servers. But the norm is that PDS and relay operators are maximally permissive.

The words aren't coming out super well but I hope this kinda makes sense?

In the fediverse, that power is implicitly vested to popular servers with lots of users. Because migration is so painful and servers have network effects (if you're not on the same server as your friends you could miss some of the fun!), it's hard for a server to lose power.

Because moderation power over a network view is explicitly centralized, that central authority can be contested and replaced. It's not easy (running such a service in its totality is inherently costly: it's a lot of data and liability!), but it is possible.

What blacksky is doing is providing an alternative moderation policy for the entire network that can compete with bluesky's on even terms. That IS NOT STRUCTURALLY POSSIBLE on the fediverse!
