this attitude in particular is one i struggle with (as someone it applies to lol). why does "i'm good where i'm at, actually!" or "i'd like to remain in this position for a little longer before i am comfortable seeking other opportunities" feel like a crime (we know why)

one option for backing up the entirety of your google drive, open gdrive in your browser, navigate to "My Drive" on the left, select all files/folders (CTRL+A), and click the download icon.

I think there’s a tendency in the aspiring writer to lionize publishing, as we must ignore its significant flaws in hopes of securing one of the vanishing paying gigs associated with the industry. The reality of traditional publishing is that it’s a deeply conservative and profit-motivated world, run by folks who will expect gratitude for putting pronouns in your author bio while also censoring anything in your work that might offend a focus group. Trans folks are inherently a socially transgressive subject, so it’s no surprise that authentic representations of our creativity that are grounded in our lived experiences rarely make it to print. Plenty of trans folks and indie publishers are willing to beat their heads against that brick wall to try and get more of our shit through, and god bless ‘em for it; for me, self-pub is starting to show more promise.

i reached out for some clarification around the Wet Screams monster anthology guidelines, since I and several author friends were confused on what might disqualify a submission, and wanted to provide this heads up for anyone who might have been considering.
Hello! Had a few questions about the guidelines for Wet Screams: - Regarding "We are looking for 2-6k word submissions of monstrous romance with high spice." - Are submissions required to have a HEA/HFN in line with genre romance? - Regarding "BDSM/Consensual non-consent is permitted, but rape submissions will be rejected." - Would you categorize any of the following as rape: dubious consent, somnophilia, or a character engaging in sexual activities while in an altered state (such as intoxication, pheromones, sex pollen, etc)? Or, to phrase it another way - does consent need to be clear and/or enthusiastic between characters involved in any sexually explicit scenes? - Given there can be some overlap with erotic horror and taboo erotica (with non-consent in erotica typically qualifying as taboo), are there any other hard limits that would disqualify a submission such as bestiality, incest, age play, watersports, etc? Thanks! Hey Magnus, An HEA is not required for a Wet Screams submission. Regarding consent- if it is not clear, it is a no from our end of the desk. In monster romance, there are lots of conditions where one may playact chasing, hunting, etc and real fear my rear its head- but we ask that characters consent, even if it is the opening of a puzzle box or saying an incantation and then being titillated into danger. Monster romance stories tend to be high consent, a facet of the genre. Again, in monster romance, there are lots of recurring tropes such as ancient age gaps. These are fine. However, we are not interested in rape, beastiality, or incest submissions. There are many taboos to be explored, and establishing a monster, its form and appearance and all of its appendages, will take up quite a lot of the word count here. I do suggest familiarizing yourself with the genre if you are feeling confused, as monster romance is not extreme erotica. Thanks, and looking forward to your submission should you decide to put one forward. Hi, HEAs/HFNs are a requirement of all genre romance, and I would suggest adding any and all limits to the guidelines so as not to waste anyone's time. When using phrases such as "explore the boundaries of creature feature intimacy" and "transgressive submissions that unlock a new kink" and "blending horror & erotica is a plus," you're inviting a range of interpretations as to how far those boundaries can be pushed. Personally I've written across the spectrum of monster romance and erotica for several years - from slice of life and romantic to dark and taboo - and I was not the only author confused about what, exactly, would disqualify a submission.
