For the curious, my own indulgent purchase was a Benu Tessera in “black amber” that looks like the most regal amber and jet necklace on the scariest of witch queens. On sale from Atlas.

Happy Fountain Pen Day to all who celebrate. Enjoy your local stationary shop and all of the great indie retailers online, many of which are having some great sales! Don’t give Amazon your money. 💙

We are prepped! It is my sacred duty to hand out full-sized candy. we don’t get many trick or treaters, but god damn if I don’t try to make it worth their while. Everyone who comes to the door, any age, gets offered treats.

Highly recommend owning a pink guitar and making it your whole personality. I am transcribing pop songs and singing them to my friends through video chat and it’s so much better than basically everything.

you know the worst part about all of this is that Robert Graves was sort of hot

Today’s read is The Abduction of Betty and Barney Hill By Matthew Bowman. As part of my upcoming seminar with the Religion Department, we’ll be talking about UFOs and the trust/mistrust in American government.

Post a perfect album from the
90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam
Soundgarden, or Alice In Chains

I loved this album so much—super influential for me as a musician. An absolute travesty that most folks only heard ”The Freshman” (Villains is also a perfect album, though, fight me).

Bella and I met at an open mic a couple of months ago and this is our first time performing together. This is a cover of “I Had Me a Girl” by the Civil Wars.

I tried to wrangle a temporary parking spot on campus since *technically* I’m not supposed to be doing strenuous things for another few weeks. When I told our office admin I had a harrowing medical adventure she was like

I have a designated desk drawer with a pen tray in it. It’s also got my ink swatch rings, syringes, and tuning supplies, plus odds and ends. I have cats, so the drawer feels more secure than something on my desktop, but still makes for quick access.

I quickly picked up a few more. They’re definitely hit or miss (like lots of other brands, some costing way more), but overall it’s been an informative and delightful tinkering experiment. And a good reminder that one needn’t spend tons of money for a great pen.

I bought an inexpensive vacumatic fountain pen directly from a Chinese shop with a mind to take it apart and learn more about some of my fancier pens, and honestly it’s a better writer than most of them. What a delightful surprise!

You cannot tell me anyone needs this middle pickup. It is just for visual balance. 🤪

I stopped in the middle of a road to save what I thought was a box turtle, but it ended up being a Beanie Baby. He has been saved regardless.

I’m lost in the weeds and plodding along, but goddamn if my dissertation organizing and drafting isn’t going to at least be ✨aesthetic✨with cute stationary and cool fountain pens.

This Parker 51 fountain pen is bringing me so much joy right now. I continue to be pleased with my pen show choices, and the foray into vintage has been super fun. Maybe I’ll teach myself to repair pens.

You better believe I have the triceratops, too. What a time to be alive.

Tiny illustrations I like to make in my journal, usually in watercolor. This is a color by Beam Paints called “Lake Superior.” I’m reading Roland Allen’s “The Notebook: A History of Thinking on Paper” and it’s bringing me so much joy. How incredible is it that we have something so glorious as paper?

At the fountain pen show last month I picked out a Leuchtturm1917 pencil and it’s very enjoyable. Having nice tools makes writing and drawing more pleasurable, and it’s something I turn to as I pull away from my phone more.

Some girls go to astrologers. I track down this poetry-writing oracle-man in a fur suit at local events, stuff my dollars into his tip jar, and he tells me what to do with my life. #witchsky
