Sun signs are the months of an ancient calendar, seeing a zodiac in the stars to reflect the earthly seasons.
Scorpio is when scorpions hibernate and crops are planted, so Scorpio signifies death and rebirth.

It seems that what we once called "equinox" now has its very own neologism (which no one has heard of): "equilux".
But the English language is defined by usage, not by self-appointed authorities, and I suspect that in common usage the old meaning is still understood.

Equinox today is the moment the ecliptic crosses the equator, but was once the days that equal the nights - Latin, "dies equinoctii".
So we now mark a single moment, not a period of a night and a day, and on a slightly different date from in ancient times.

This pre-Roman British shield, aka the Battersea shield, was fished out of the Thames in 1857. It is rightly famous. The work of a master craftsman, it is simple, yet breathtakingly beautiful with its elegant, sinuous lines. Old Father Thames, more please

Three signs of wisdom:
Patience;
Memory;
Foresight.

Just got here from somewhere else - thanks to @onefaithlove.bsky.social for the invite.

This view of the River Teme is from a few days ago - the water's much higher now.
