It's going to sound weird but what came to mind first was Tom Swift. It launched me into a lifelong love of science fiction even though it's incredibly cringe now. Non-fiction was hands down Walden. No contest.

Introducing Adorable. We call her Dori. Dori was the runt of the litter that grew up to become a VBC (very big cat). She sez there are two kinds of people. She hates them both.
