I'm not financially secure by any stretch of the imagination, and it would be almost impossible for me to immigrate to Canada. I'm gonna try my best if it comes to that however as the alternative is fascist dictatorship.

Sadly yeah, that's generally how it goes. The best option is stay far enough away from population centers that you don't have to worry about political violence as much and try to be as self sufficient as possible.

Again, really depends on personal definitions. I don't necessarily count them, but I can see where people would consider that as state owned media.

Yes, I'm pointing out characteristics of authoritarian regimes, and China is ruled by one of them.

Yeah that's another big one, I can definitely see this happening in the summer when protests pick up.

It really depends on individual situations, especially in the case of minorities and LGBTQ+ people. My personal red line is the jailing of journalists and state ownership of media. I can say for sure though if martial law is declared, it's too late to leave the country.

I don't want to leave either, but there comes a time when home is no longer safe, and knowing when it's time to go can save lives.

I'm also an American, but I've studied fascism and the rise of fascist regimes for a while, the best advice I can give is pick a red line and know when to run. Everybody has different tolerance levels, just pick a point that if crossed by the government, you get out of the country.
