Also on Mastodon (mas.to) as 'the_other_guy' (go Fediverse!)

Raised as Democrat in Massachusetts. Living in central PA as a lonely liberal. Strongly in favor of a social safety net and of guard rails around large corporations and the wealthy.

I have to respect a comic strip that features the topic of existential meaning, and uses the phrase 'ontological quandry'. Well done Mr Watterson. I expect more than a few budding minds had to hit the dictionary that day.

Today's reissue is eerily relevant.

I loved Bill Watterson's masterful observations on society... I guess that's what got him banned recently. Well done sir.

Excellent post from Heather Cox Richardson this morning. She points out that gov't spending to GDP has been roughly 20% since 1975. The debt problem is driven by lost tax revenue.

A sign from the Harrisburg PA No Kings Protest. Just now. Peaceful but enthusiastic. Probably 3000 protesters as a guess. No police evident.

Epic level dad joke.
And also true.

This is critically important. We have to break the hold they have on low information voters. Read this article and act!

Just a reminder... BlueSky is awesome in this moment, but it is still a for-profit model that could easily end up in the sewer with X-twitter in time. Mastodon has a more robust, distributed foundation. I recommend a presence in both.

Some people are struggling for the basics, never mind WiFi and a Latte... but the perspective here has value too. We can do this. Others have.

This will cause long term loss of knowledge that will set us back decades. And this is just a single example. The low-information voters will never hear about this. Fox News is their only input... or nothing at all. They will be baffled why the US is becoming a knowledge backwater.
