Gnome has built a solid reputation of removing features and becoming less and less flexible. Looks like they are extending this concept to GTK.
Linux has been historically good at extending old hardware life. Removing support for old OpenGL and X11 doesn’t really resonate with that. #shameongnome

Are they doing anything to mitigate the “run arbitrary code” issue in their Themes?
