More hay for the sheep… it’s kind of an expensive hobby, but I’m attempting to regenerate some desertified patches in the pasture, where the south-facing slope gets blasted by the sun.

Plants grow slowly in Montana, and it will take a few years to cover the arched trellis with vines. But ice, we can grow that in abundance! This hanging icicle garden only required one night of watering. It may not be too inviting to walk through, but it was fun to make!

My chicken operation got a little out of hand this year, with close to fifty birds split between the flocks at home and at River Camp. We butchered all but one rooster the other day, plus a few of the hens. They are not meat chickens, so a little on the small side, but they make good chicken soup.

Thanks to Linda Borton for the gift of a watercolor painting by my high school art teacher, Ray Campeau. I spent a great deal of time in the art room in high school 39 years ago. Mr. Campeau is still painting and holding gallery events today. I’m thrilled to have an original Campeau in the house!

I do at least one energy conservation project each year, and recently purchased a GE Profile ventless 4.8 cu ft. Washer/Dryer Combo that washes and dries the laundry in one process. It uses a heat pump to move heat, rather than a heating element to generate heat. I am extremely happy with it so far!

Linda and I had so much fun touring Puerto Rico with my daughter and granddaughter for a week. We enjoyed some beautiful weather, with highs averaging about 85ºF every day. We quickly learned that mornings are the best time to be at the beach, before it gets too hot in the afternoon!
