My kids would have vomited by his point in the ad if they used devices like that in that car.

Tell me about it. It's a similar story in most towns - where everyone usually constantly moans about congestion. The census data is an eye-opener.

It feels like people taking short journeys by car is a major part of the issue. In our small town of 10K people, 365 non-disabled people said they drive less than 1.2 miles to work in the 2021 census. I can't see an extra 6p per day putting many people off (but maybe that's the point).

Safety is a major reason I choose public transport where I can. On a stretch of road leading to our nearest town, 4 people have died in traffic accidents since 2020, and a council survey found that there were on average 7 vehicles a day travelling more than 100mph.

Tell me about it. Currently suspending all our leisure trips (on the dirty diesels) to Salisbury, Lyme Regis, and Devon due to longer journey times and fewer trains (never good with young kids). The single line sections are a massive issue when the timetable alters or trains are late.

There's a significant older and disabled population in our area and people have told us they were forced into car ownership or shopping online when a key bus service was removed in 2017. Lots of £ meant for the local economy now goes to Amazon, oil corps, and insurers.

I think I saw they've had to put on buses from Axminster to Exeter for the college and school students.

It's a great example of how climate change is hitting the economy. We're regular visitors to Salisbury, Lyme Regis (via Axminster), and Exeter but have just stayed home since the timetable was reduced and journey times lengthened. Fewer going to London too as a 2h 20 journey is now near to 3h.

That's still the case with UK train wi-fi/phone data.

I'm sure it will be OK. Train fares in the UK are famously simple.

I wonder if the town centre is really struggling (any more than the average high street). It's buzzing every time we visit and seems to have a lot of new shops.
