No, CEDs were not “amazing,” Linus! They were awful! SelectaVision was a 17-year, $650 million goose egg that RCA never recovered from.

Forgot that I had picked up this curio back in 2007: The Criterion Collection’s LaserDisc release of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are coming to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

Yeah, I’ll be fine.

Finally watched “The Web Planet,” a Doctor Who serial I’ve always wanted to see and I would describe as both the best and worst of that early era in the show’s history: a willingness to go out and take some real risks in story and presentation but still lacking the resources to fully realize them.

Last night we watched an old couple’s favorite, del Toro’s perfect gothic ghost story, Crimson Peak. This movie is creepy and romantic and tragic in all the right ways.

Continuing spooky season we saw Creepshow at the Alamo Drafthouse a couple of days ago, which perfectly emulates its horror comic book inspiration: C was not a fan of the "They're Creeping Up on You!" sequence.

This weekend C and I rewatched that folk horror classic, The Wicker Man, and you really forget just how front-loaded the movie is with songs and musical performances.

We also watched Talk to Me, perfectly effective horror film about spiritual contact, and The Crow, the most 1994 comic book movie ever made.

Partner and I had a bit of a Fairuza Balk-athon this weekend: this was C’s first time watching Return to Oz (a children’s movie too scary for its own good) and my first time seeing The Craft (a great 90s girl equivalent to The Lost Boys).

She’s a witch, so it counts!

My partner and I kicked off our spooky movie season with Kiki’s Delivery Service, which C watched for the first time and found very charming.
