✅ Put public land on the table
✅ Leverage local funds $$
✅ Deploy housing-authority financing + 501(c)(3)s
✅ Opt-in to state incentives

Not to mention other local incentives. Instead of building more local bureaucracy, let’s just get housing built

With recent state & local laws, devs are now required to replace units at the same affordability level when any protected unit is proposed to be demolished. This story doesn’t end with the mistakes of our past. There are many more Calvins who deserve a dignified place to call home.

That said, I’d push back on the insinuation that the condo project under development across the street has anything to do with the decline in SROs over the last 60 years. We’ve had decades of demolition of SROs, but we’ve turned a corner.

Take a look at ADU permits in SD region over the past decade. We wont begin to see impact from this policy change in our housing permitting data until spring of 2026. Really disappointing to see a program that builds housing rolled back.

The beach communities are in weird situations where intra-neighborhood they are very pedestrian friendly… but walking between neighborhoods, not so much.
