Big congrats to Lindsay Zanno and James Napoli on their Nature paper today demonstrating the presence of small bodied tyrannosaurs in the Hell Creek (distinct from T. rex). Very cool stuff, and some nice histo + growth data supporting the result!

Yes the ribs are a bit distorted there, though for what it's worth, the widest gastralia on Sue are fused together in their current position, rather than being placed that way by choice. The rib cage is also narrower on the new mount than the old one (which was more rounded)

Back from fieldwork in Northern BC (w/ Victoria Arbour + RBCM crew) & in Southern Alberta (w/ David Evans + SADP crew).

Looking forward to sharing more about our findings soon!

In the meantime, here are photos of the amazing wildlife and landscapes of those areas

New paper!

We reconstructed the trophic levels of terrestrial vertebrates in the Cretaceous of Alberta using geochem of teeth.

Most interesting result?

Troodontid dinosaurs were likely omnivores, with a large plant component to their diets.

Hello! I'm Tom, I'm a palaeontologist & ecologist, working as a prof at Auburn U. I research community dynamics, life history, & biodiversity of organisms in ancient greenhouse environments using a variety of methods. I've also done a fair bit of museum work & exhibit development, & love fieldwork.
