Spent husks of last season’s seed pods still cling to the branch as fresh green life bursts forth. The renewal feels especially tender here—like nature is pausing between breaths. (Erythronium americanum) Shy yellow trout lilies bow to the forest floor, their speckled leaves blending into the mossy backdrop. Their bloom is brief but unmistakable—a wild woodland signal that spring is underway. Fully Bloomed Red Trillium (Trillium erectum) This red trillium lifts its deep crimson petals above a carpet of moss and wild greens. A quiet emblem of wild Appalachian spring. Red Trillium Bud (Trillium erectum) This red trillium is just beginning to reveal its deep maroon petals, still held in a gentle spiral under a veil of dew. Also known as wake-robin, it waits for the forest to warm.
