It is hard for normal humans to imagine how much the capital movers we colloquially call "Wall Street" hate the regulatory state. I think the view is that any disruption from Trump will be something they can allocate around, but the Biden administration was opposing extractive capital directly.

As someone who lives in the district, his most visible record was being a jerk online, and seeking and holding the endorsements of the most wealthy and conservative folks who call themselves Democrats. He lost to the opponent with a deeper local track record. It's how local politics should work.

I just rage-unsubscribed from the Times, and still thank you (and Tressie, and Zenyep, and many others) for writing there, and continuing to bring perspective and context to an important audience. It's vital work.
