Off to London! It's going to be a hot one. I've got a couple of hours to kill when I arrive and normally I would go for a long walk, but today I think all I'll be able to manage is a pub garden. 😅 Does anyone know a nice sunny spot in Notting Hill??

Hot debut alert!
It's one month until the release of this incredible debut thriller from the unstoppable creative force that is @sarahgovett.bsky.social I've read it, and BELIEVE when I say this book has everything you could ever want from a psychological thriller.

This oak was around long before our house was built and will outlive us. We'll be even fonder of it now.
When we got back, my son said: Dad, can we go looking for more trees tomorrow?

We looked back, trying to spot our house, but the view that way was crap by comparison. Trees are better to look at than houses.

It is magnificent - quite literally outstanding in its field - and fully deserves its place at the high point of this great city.

I have to say it is even more majestic than I could've hoped for, and the pictures taken on my budget phone do not do it justice. What was interesting is we recognised it instantly, even though we'd previously only viewed it from a distance of three miles.

we found it!

And, after a little walk...

So... we drove my end-of-life Citroën up to Dundry and parked up in what we thought was roughly the right spot. We lucked upon a footpath.

Every day, my eye is drawn to a large and lonely oak that sits on the brow of that hill. I spend a lot of time looking at this tree, and my son and I agreed we should go and find it and maybe see what our house looks like from the other side.
April 13, 2025 at 10:47 AM
We are lucky that our house has a view of Dundry Hill, the highest point in Bristol.
April 13, 2025 at 10:47 AM
It's a week into the school holidays, and, as I'm already running out of ideas, we we went on an Easter hunt - for a tree.

Currently reading this from @gdwrightwrites.bsky.social After the Storm was one of my fave reads of last year, and this is every bit as intense. 🤯 Out in June! 🔥🔥🔥

I'm on a train! To London! For no other reason than to catch up with a bunch of brilliant writers. Lovely stuff

Snow here in Bristol! Probably time to put away that sun lounger

I've got a deadline in six days. So, naturally, I've decided now's the time to buy a bull fiddle and learn how to play it

I loved this one from @manylittlewords.bsky.social It's a must for fans of du Maurier or anyone who's on the hunt for something chilling that can be downed in one shot

I've seen a fair bit of chat suggesting Gregg Wallace's alleged behaviour amounts to harmless banter. Here's a reminder of how Gregg reacted when he was on the receiving end of some similar 'banter' at a Dinner with Gregg Wallace event in 2013

I also love to see what writers get up to when they close the laptop. I like to improvise music, mostly on guitar and in the old American styles - #tradcountry #rockabilly #westernswing #jumpblues #jazz I love it all

What was your best performing tweet? The only thing that got much engagement for me was a Lego replica of the Crucible Theatre my son and I made. So here it is
